The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:
- Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback
All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
