Peak Pizza? Domino's CEO Steps Down After Shift Into Chicken.

The head of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who proposed the UK might have hit maximum pizza demand while expanding the company into fried chicken has been replaced after conflicts with its board.

Executive Transition

The former CEO is departing after just two years in the top role, and will be replaced on an interim basis by the organization's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant searches for a permanent CEO.

The outgoing executive, who worked for the company for more than two decades, had aimed to redirect Britain's leading pizza delivery company towards chicken offerings, commenting earlier this month there was not “significant expansion” left in the UK's pizza market. He noted poultry was the most rapidly expanding menu item in the world.

Board Tensions

Reports indicate that there was tension between the CEO and the board over his strategy and direction, although the company's release said he was stepping down “by mutual agreement”.

New Product Introduction

In September, the chain introduced its Chick 'N' Dip offering – which the former chief described as a “bold new chapter” for the company – and is testing it in over 200 locations in the North West region and Northern Ireland.

While the firm is still going to roll it out across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as scheduled, it regards chicken products as complementary to its core pizza business.

Leadership Statement

Ian Bull, the Domino's chair, said: “Directors think that there are a number of opportunities to drive further growth and value creation in the main pizza segment. We are prioritizing identifying the right chief executive to direct the systematic rollout of that development approach.”

Market Challenges

Recently, Domino's, which has millions of users in the UK and Ireland, said orders dipped by 1.5% in the latest quarter. In August, it cautioned that the food delivery sector had “become tougher” as it blamed reduced spending in the period before the budget and increasing labor expenses for disappointing revenue and a 15 percent decline in half-year profits.

Rival chains are also struggling. Pizza Hut announced the closing of multiple locations a month ago, after the business behind its British operations entered insolvency.

Wellness Efforts

Responding to market shifts towards healthier eating, Domino's has introduced light items, such as its thin-crust range of pizzas below 400 kcals as well as plant-based and gluten-free options. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has 2,171, while a individual has under 1,000 calories.

Interim Management

Nicola Frampton has been with Domino's since 2021, and previously worked for the betting firm a well-known operator. It is believed that she prefers not to assume the top job long-term.

She commented: “We have a multiple ongoing expansion and operational projects that we will be dedicated to implementing at a rapid rate.”

She added these included further work on the company's procurement system and product development, and its rewards program.

Domino's is also in need of a long-term finance director until March 16, when Andy Andrea comes aboard from the drinks company C&C Group. Until then, Snow serves as acting financial officer.
