Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
