Homages Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
More than two weeks following the shocking loss of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he finally felt ready to share openly about his profound loss.
"Adequate time has elapsed that I can at last express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started passing more hours together I realized this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor uploaded never-before-seen clips from the film, commenting that he could not remember "any day without mirth".
"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I recall you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Fellow Artist
In a different tribute, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the protagonist.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with everyone, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
Recently, a Los Angeles judge decided to bar the publication of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive issued a security hold on the cases to limit the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the consequence of foul play, with a public database citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Aftermath and Reactions
After the tragedy, public figures expressed different responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump commented on the matter, offering controversial remarks that were widely condemned by several commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the those speaking out last week. Talking on his program, Rogan labeled the remarks as "disappointing" and suggested they showed a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan finished by remarking that an associate ought to have acted when the impulse to comment on the tragedy was made.
