Illegal dumpers have dumped a huge quantity of rubbish in a field in Oxfordshire.

The "ecological disaster developing in public view" is around 150m (490ft) extending and 6m (20ft) in height.

The enormous heap has been discovered in a field adjacent to the River Cherwell in the vicinity of Kidlington.

Elected official brought up the situation in parliament, stating it was "risking an environmental disaster".

An environmental charity said the unlawful waste site was created around a recently by an criminal network.

"This is an ecological disaster taking place in full view.

Addressing MPs on Thursday, he said: "Illegal operators have discarded a massive amount of illegal plastic waste... weighing substantial weight, in my district on a water-adjacent land next to the River Cherwell.

"River levels are increasing and thermal imaging indicate that the garbage is also increasing in temperature, elevating the threat of fire.

"Environmental authorities stated it has limited capabilities for regulation, that the projected cost of disposal is larger than the complete yearly budget of the regional government."

Cabinet member stated the government had assumed responsibility for a failing recycling sector that had resulted in an "widespread problem of unauthorized dumping".

She told parliament members the agency had served a prohibition notice to halt additional admission to the area.

In a announcement, the agency said it was investigating the matter and requested for evidence.

It commented: "We acknowledge the community's anger about situations like this, which is why we take action against those responsible for illegal dumping."

A recent report found attempts to address significant illegal dumping have been "extremely neglected" even though the issue developing into bigger and more advanced.
