Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got a lot of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
