A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
